NEWS AND LINK: Rickie Fowler wins Big-12 individual championship

Rickie Fowler of Murrieta, a freshman at Oklahoma State and the nation’s top-ranked male golfer, shot a final-round 68 to finish at 9-under 279 at Whispering Pines GC in Trinity, Tex., and became the sixth Cowboy to win the Big 12 title; it was also Fowler’s ninth consecutive top-10 finish to start his college career. NEWS: Tim Hogarth wins another Kelly Cup

Tim Hogarth isn’t a member at Lakeside Golf Club but he certainly owns the famed 1920s Toluca Lake layout. The 41-year-old Northridge resident fired a 1-under-par 69 to win his sixth overall and fourth consecutive Kelly Cup, both records for the prestigious invitational tournament celebrating its silver anniversary this year. Hogarth previous won Kelly Cups in 1999, 2000 and 2005-2007. MORE

NEWS: Hogarth trails by one at Kelly Cup

Tim Hogarth of Northridge trails by one shot heading into the final round at Lakeside Golf Club's prestigious invitational, the Kelly Cup.

Hogarth, seeking his sixth Kelly Cup overall and fourth consecutive (both of which would be records), shot rounds of 70-72 — 142, 2 over par, and trails Mike Hyland of Las Vegas, who is at 71-70 — 141. Jeff Hunter of San Diego is in third place at 146 (71-75), followed by Randall Cross of Sacramento (147) and Lakeside member Greg Bell (148).

The final round is tomorrow morning.

Lakeside GC will be one of the two courses in the 97th California Amateur Championship June 16-21.

NEWS AND LINK: USC, Rory Hie win U.S. Intercollegiate at Stanford

The USC men’s golf team, No. 3 in national rankings, won its third tournament in its last four events while sophomore Rory Hie won his second tournament of the season and became Troy’s third individual winner in the past four starts on the final day of the U.S. Intercollegiate Championships at the Stanford G.C. in Palo Alto, Calif., on Sunday (April 20).

The Trojans, in their regular-season finale, finished at 12-under 828 (266-287-275), 13 strokes ahead of host Stanford (1-over 841-279-293-269). Cal and UCLA tied for third (857). USC’s final round was the second lowest of the day. MORE

NEWS: Dan Sullivan wins PLGA Amateur

Veteran Brookside Golf Club member Dan Sullivan held off Omar Diaz of Skylinks and reigning Public Links of Southern California senior champion Bob Valerio to win the PLGA Amateur Championship April 13. Sullivan's win, which came six months after shoulder surgery, earned him a spot on the PLGA's team in the 42nd Pacific Coast Amateur Championship in August at Royal Colwood GC in Victoria, British Columbia. NEWS: Spencer Levin rallies from eight-shot deficit to win Canadian Tour event

Spencer Levin, the 2005 California Amateur champion, rallied from eight shots back to win the Canadian Tour's Spring International tournament in a playoff at Del Rio CC ion Modesto. MORE

STORY AND LINK: San Diego's Mark Woodward named CEO of Golf Course Superintendents Association of America

Mark J. Woodward, golf operations manager for the city of San Diego, has been selected chief executive officer for the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

His selection by the GCSAA Board of Directors comes after conducting a national search to replace Steve Mona, who became the chief executive of the World Golf Foundation March 3. MORE
